Summer
2008
Year Four have had a great Spring term and have completed lots
of interesting work. We have enjoyed starting our new history
topic on 'Life since 1948' with a visit from Toby Stok from
Somerset Museum Service. We had the opportunity to look at lots
of artefacts and pictures from the different decades.
We have also completed our topic on chairs. We spent time looking
at different types of chairs and produced our own version of
Van Gogh's 'Chair'.
We finished
the topic by designing and making our own chair for a fictional
character. The children used many different materials to create
their designs.
Spring
2008
Year 4 have been busy this term. We have been thinking about
persuasive texts in literacy and have looked at how film producers
promote their films to persuade us to see them. The children
designed posters for different films and then we went on to
produce our own promotional trailers for "Shrek the third".
Everyone worked hard to use persuasive text and dialogue in
their trailers and the results were amazing.
This term
in Science we have been thinking about keeping warm. The topic
has involved lots of practical activities and investigations.
The children had the opportunity to design their own investigation
into keeping a hot drink warm. There were many exciting ideas
and all of the groups came up with some good ideas for insulators.
Autumn
2007
Year Four have settled back into school well. We have a freshly
painted classroom and the children have worked hard to create
some great displays.
We have
spent time looking at the traditional Chinese story behind the
willow pattern. The children did some wonderful art work and
writing for the display.
We have
started the year thinking about how we may grow as a class and
created a lovely display of a Maple tree to illustrate this.
We have
produced some thought provoking poetry already this term and
are looking forward to continuing our work on World War Two.
