UK & Ireland 2007 National Lego League Final

On the 1st February, a group of Year 6's from High Ham Primary School set off to Birmingham to take part in the First Lego League Final.
After a stop at a service station, a long drive and a lot of sweets, we arrived in Birmingham and so did the snow! After the long wait to get checked in at the Apollo Hotel we went to T.G.I Friday's for supper.
The next morning we woke up very excited and walked to the dinner hall to find a breakfast buffet awaiting us. As soon as we finished our lovely meal we went straight to the competition which was held at Birmingham University.
When we got inside we found our table and half an hour later we had the opening ceremony where we were told that four lucky schools would be getting the chance to go to the USA or Japan. Mrs Wills wanted us to win so she could go to Japan but Mrs Harris wanted to go the America. We had a text from Mrs Balai saying that she was already practicing with her chop sticks but was having problems eating her Wheetabix!! There were 24 schools from the UK and Ireland including only 8 Primary schools. We were the only Somerset School. WOW!
After the opening, we were straight on to the mat for round 1. We had a few practices on the mat and we did very well! We then were called to go have a team work interview without the teachers!
Another practice on the mat, then straight to round 2. We were ok at it but we won't tell you all the detail! By this time the girls on the team had been cheerleaders on stage.
Our technical interview came next, where we took the robot, tree stands, laptop (to show our programming) and our handmade wave turbine. We did alright but maybe we needed to have a bit more experience as some of the questions were really difficult!
Then was the 3rd round but you don't want to know how it went - disaster! After the robot finals came what we were all waiting for - the results and the award ceremony. All the teams were presented with medals and goodie bags!
We were so excited when we were awarded runners up in Research Project, we were sadly beaten by a 6 form college!
We had a fantastic time and would like to thank Mrs Harris and Mr and Mrs Wills for taking us. Also thanks to all the sponsors and parents who paid for most of the trip.
