British Values

Difference is protected under British law and the Equality Act identifies specific protected characteristics. It is our duty to develop and deepen pupils’ understanding of the fundamental British values. To support equality of opportunity and to promote an inclusive ethos where pupils can thrive together, understanding that difference is a positive, not a negative, and that individual characteristics make a person unique, we use the No Outsiders scheme.

How We Celebrate British Values at High Ham Church of England Primary School

Please have a look at our school twitter feed which aptly shows the wide range of activities which the children engage in to ensure that this area of the curriculum is covered. For ease of reference we have also added some under a British Values tag.

We ensure we remind the children throughout their school life of the need to:

• have a respect for DEMOCRACY and support/participation in the democratic process. For example, voting for team captains. Voting (Democracy)
• show respect for the basis on which the LAW is made and applies in England. Mini Police scheme (Rule of law)
• support for EQUALITY and opportunity for all.
• support and respect for the LIBERTIES of all within the law. Discussing vaccinations (Liberty)
• show respect for and TOLERANCE of different faiths and other beliefs. Knowing right from wrong (Respect and Tolerance)

We aim to nurture our children on their journey through life so they can grow into safe, caring, democratic, responsible and tolerant adults who make a positive difference to British Society and to the world.
